Supporting Students in Education Decisions: The Bridge Builder Volunteers in Action
The Bridge Builder group of volunteers has been busy supporting students through the process of deciding their next stage of education. Currently, all students have to remain in education or training until they are 18 years of age.
At the age of 16 years, students can decide to continue their studies at a sixth form;transfer to a college to follow a course which will develop their skills, or search for a specific apprenticeship course. The Bridge Builders team of volunteers meet with students to give them advice on their options in an interview setting which will help them to decide on their futures. Planning coordinators, Derek Upton and Pat Maguire having built up strong links with each school, manage the volunteers and resources that go on to make this initiative such an impactive one for the students. This year alone Bridge Builders will have had positive interview sessions with more than 1,000 students!
Following each of the events, the feedback & responses from the students is always positive and encouraging. Bridge Builders volunteers mostly come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences which enables them to proactively guide students in their interview sessions. Bridge Builders are always on the lookout for more volunteers to join the team - could you or someone you know play a part in empowering a young person to be the best they can be in their life journey?
